Harold’s Flight

Our Ex Bosun Harold, known more familiarly as ‘H’ took to the skies recently in a Mark IXe Spitfire.
Harold took his flight on the 8th June, taking off from Swansea Airport. After a lengthy safety briefing involving baling out procedure and parachute operation, Harold was ready to achieve his boyhood dream of flying in the iconic warbird.
The aircraft had some personal family connections for Harold as his father, also Harold, had maintained Spitfires in his service career. Harold was airborne for over half an hour, during which time he was allowed to pilot the aircraft for some 15 minutes, the pilot being very complementary regarding his control of the aircraft.
The pilot also treated Harold to some exciting aerobatics, including several barrel rolls and loops. Harold found the whole experience life changing, and is still on Cloud 9 as a result. He would like to take this opportunity to thank club members and the Committee for their continued support and kindness during this time.
