The Swansea Yacht & Sub Aqua Club has a thriving and active Fishing Section, currently comprising around 50 members who share a strong passion for the sport. Established approximately 20 years ago, the section has continued to grow steadily over the years, fostering a welcoming and supportive community for all experience levels. A key strength of the Fishing Section is the willingness of its most experienced members to pass on their extensive local knowledge, helping newcomers develop their skills, gain confidence, and make the most of the rich fishing opportunities available in the area.
Fishing Section
The Fishing Section holds regular competitions throughout the year across the Swansea Bay area. These competitions range from one of the country’s leading Cod Competitions, which attracts around 300 entrants annually, to smaller, more local species competitions that cater for anglers of all experience levels. This varied programme ensures there is something for everyone, whether you are a seasoned competitor or simply enjoy friendly, well-organised events.
Our anglers also benefit from the ability to launch their boats from our very own slipway into the River Tawe, providing convenient and direct access to Swansea Bay via the Tawe Barrage Locks. This excellent facility allows easy access to a wide range of fishing marks and makes both competition and leisure fishing straightforward and enjoyable.
In addition to fishing activities, the Fishing Section holds regular social functions at the Club House throughout the year. These events are a great opportunity for members to relax, socialise, and share experiences away from the water. The Fishing Section members usually meet at the clubhouse on a Sunday night, providing a relaxed and friendly environment where members can socialise, share experiences, and discuss recent and upcoming fishing activities. We are always pleased to welcome new members and encourage anyone interested to get involved. Monthly Competitions
The Fishing Section runs monthly competitions throughout the year. These are friendly and enjoyable events open to all members.
There’s no need to keep the fish – simply photograph your catch and record it.
Members taking part in competitions can:
- Compete to win tackle vouchers
- Enjoy one free pint for every competing member
Weekly Social Meet-Up
Members also meet socially most Sundays at the clubhouse from around 5pm to 8pm.
It’s a great opportunity to catch up, share fishing stories and discuss upcoming competitions. New members are always welcome, so please feel free to join us.
Annual Awards
At the end of the season, awards are presented for:
- Most Species Caught in the Year
- Longest Bass
- Longest Tope
- Champion Angler
Annual General Meeting (AGM)
The Fishing Section Annual General Meeting will be held at the Clubhouse on Sunday 19th April at 6:00pm.
All members are encouraged to attend.

Most of our Competitions are de-cided on the Length of the Fish.
The exception to this is the Ray species where the winner is the Ray with the biggest width from the Tip of the Wings. This allows for the fish to be re-turned alive
