Berthing Yard Marina News – November 2025

The wood for redecking the Main Walkway has arrived. Work is well under way making the pallets for E Pontoon replacement. These will be laid in conjunction with the Electric distribution contract. The members shed has been cleared, a special bench erected, and the work can now be done in shelter of the elements for Dai, Ben and Elliot

Rhys Mainwaring has started trials to undertake this task using a special RCD controlled water drone, a device that has been used successfully in other settings.
In the first instance, we have therefore asked Rhys to take this project forward for the Berth Holders Section Committee, matching way points with those used by Swansea Council’s contractors so we can get highly accurate and comparable records of what is happening in the river relative to the primary weir crest.
We will provide further updates as they are available, but in the meantime we thought that members might be interested in seeing some pictures showing Rhys setting up his equipment and also the path taken by the water drone during the initial trial.
Please could all Berthholders check the condition of their Warps and Fenders. We are now approaching the time of year when winter storms and surges can affect the Marina. When checking vessels, please do so conditions are suitable. Please ensure that anchors and Bow sprots don’t overhang the walkways. Safety is paramount.

Unfortunately during the November storms and heavy rainfall. The Marina boom broke at the end adjacent to Sainsburys. Repairs and under way to the main boom. The yellow plastic temporary boom will be installed in the meantime.
